Looking back over the year, we have had a fantastic time together as the 2 Navy community.  We have worked hard and learnt lots of new things, have made terrific friends and created many wonderful memories.  Thank you for being such an awesome class of students, this year has been an exciting journey with you all. Parents, thank you also for your support throughout the year, education really is a partnership between home and school and you can be proud of the achievements of your child this year! Please remember to read with your child throughout the holidays and revise sight words and counting so that your child has the best possible start for Year 3.  I wish you all a very safe and blessed Christmas and a wonderful 2016! :)

Please note the change to Music and PE, now being an hour block for the rest of the year on Wednesdays and Fridays. This is to enable all of the Yr2 children to be able to rehearse for the Christmas concert together.

Swimming lessons continue this week.
Please ensure that your child has packed in a plastic bag: swimming togs, towel, swimming cap, thongs/sandals and goggles (if your child usually uses them). Well done to almost all of the students remembering to pack all of their swimming gear on Friday! It helps us enormously to get to the bus on time if the students could please wear their swimming togs underneath their uniform - we only have 15 minutes after the lunchtime bell for 30 children to be changed and walk down to the road to catch the bus. About half of the class did this on Friday and the children did not experience any discomfort and consequently were organised very quickly. :)

Swimming lessons begin this week for the next 3 weeks. Children will be attending their swimming lesson at 12.00pm on Wed and Fri each week. 

Please ensure that your child has packed in a plastic bag: swimming togs, towel, swimming cap, thongs/sandals and goggles (if your child usually uses them). 

Children must wear footwear to and from the bus trip which is why we request that you pack thongs or sandals which your child can quickly slip on and off - school runners are too tricky for damp little feet to squeeze in and out of. They need to have a plastic bag for their wet gear to go into when they get changed back into their school uniform, so that they don't wet other items in their school bag. Thank you for your co operation with making your child's swimming lessons a stress free activity! :)

Welcome back to our final term of the year! This will be a busy term during which we consolidate what the children have been learning throughout the year and prepare them for Year 3. Please continue to read with your child EVERY night, as the children will be reading tested from week 4 onwards and we want them all to do the very best that they can to meet the Year 2 requirements. 

Just for this week, we will have PE on Wednesday instead of Tuesday because Mr Eames will be attending a sport meeting on Tuesday afternoon. 

The library bag challenge is on again this term! Last week we had lots of children without their library bags. Please remember to pack your library bag every Friday for the chance to win the Challenge - any sort of bag is fine! Have a great week! :)

This week will be a short but very exciting week! After enjoying an extra long weekend, children will return to a fun morning of Under 8's Day activities on the oval and undercover areas. Parents are welcome to stay for this session, which will run from 9.00am until 10.30am. On Wednesday we keep the excitement flowing with our Book Character parade, which will be at 9.30am in the hall, parents are again welcome to join us for this literary celebration. Please note - students MUST bring their school uniform to change in to after the parade, as their costumes are not suitable for normal school activities which will continue after lunch. We will kick off our last week of Term 2 with the Junior Athletics Carnival. This will run from 8.40am until second break, 1.30pm. Students are permitted to wear their house coloured t-shirt/polo shirt with their school sports uniform.

On Tuesday morning the students will be presenting the dances which they have been learning during their dance fever lessons. Parents, family and friends are invited to come and watch in the multi-purpose court area from 9.30-10.30am.

School resumes Monday 13th July - wishing you all a relaxing and safe holiday and look forward to seeing everyone return refreshed and rearing to go for Term 3! :)

Last week was a very busy week with parent teacher interviews and report cards being finalised. It was great to catch up with so many parents to discuss your child's progress.  Education really is a partnership between school and home, so knowing what goals you can support your child with for second semester can have a significant impact upon your child being able to achieve those goals comfortably. 

Next Monday, the final Monday of the term, will be the junior athletics carnival and will no doubt be a fun filled day!

It is important that student attendance is consistent in order to facilitate this process. St Bernardine's Day was celebrated with spirituality and fun on Wednesday last week. It began with a beautiful school liturgy in Siena Hall during which we reflected upon the life of the saint whom we regard so highly to name our school after. The children were then treated to a sausage sizzle, fruit and iceblock. We also enjoyed a show by Indigenous performer Lucas Proudfoot, which was both lively and educational.

This week 2 Navy will be leading our morning assembly prayer. Hope you have a fantastic week! :)

Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed their excursion to the Greenbank RSL on Monday last week, I hope your child told you all about the great experience. We are very fortunate for the time and enthusiasm with which the volunteer veterans run this excursion for the benefit of our students to enhance their understanding of the role Australians have played in the history of world wars. 

On Wednesday 2 Navy did a lovely job of running Wednesday morning mass - well done everyone! This Wednesday is St Bernardine's day, which is a free dress day for a gold coin donation. The children will be treated to a sausage sizzle and ice block, as well as a show by Indigenous performer Lucas Proudfoot.

The 2 Navy students did a wonderful job of running our Wednesday assembly. All their hard work practising paid off for both the actors and the readers, awesome job everyone! 

There is more excitement ahead with our excursion to the Greenbank RSL on Monday. Just a reminder that all students are to wear their checked shirt to school and must have a hat as we will be walking to the RSL. We will go straight to the classroom at the first bell instead of going to morning assembly, so that students can drop off their bags and be marked off the roll. We will then be departing the school by 8.45am sharp in order to arrive on time at the RSL. We will be returning to the school by lunchtime, which means that the children do not need to bring anything other than their normal lunchbox.

Hopefully the children who are reading at assembly have been practising with the notes sent home last Wednesday. We have been busy practising in class, and would love to see any parents who are able to make it on Wednesday afternoon! 

All mothers and grandmothers are invited as special guests along with their families to the Mothers' Day liturgy on Friday morning, 7.15am in the church. There will be a light breakfast provided for these special women after the liturgy.

A reminder for children to please bring in a shoe box and any little boxes which fit inside it, for their 'suitcase for war' art activity. Thank you!
