Well done 2 Navy on leading our P-2 Ash Wednesday liturgy during the week - you all conducted yourselves in a prayerful and respectful manner. Thank you to the families who were able to join us, we appreciate you taking the time and effort to join us on such an important ceremony in the church calendar. Our Vision Statement will be presented in the church this Monday at 9.30am along with the other Year 2 and the Year 4 classes - families are most welcome to come and join us!

Our Lenten Caritas appeal is off to a great start with the children eager to contribute to our Caritas money box. The 'crown of thorn's on our prayer table represents the crown of thorns that Jesus was forced to wear on Good Friday. Each time a child makes a donation to our Caritas box, he or she removes a 'thorn' from our crown as a symbol of helping to ease Christ's pain through our gift of helping others. The child then adds a link with his or her name on it, to our 'chain of love', to represent each donation given with love. We look forward to measuring our chain of love at the end of each week to see how long we can make it 'grow'!

The children are now bringing home readers every night.  It is expected that all students read their home reader EVERY night, at least twice.  Once for word practise, and a second reading to facilitate fluency and comprehension.  You will notice a list of comprehension strategies will come home in the folder this week. Please keep this card in the folder and use at least one strategy each night to assist your child with comprehension of the text, as this is just as important as being able to read the words. Comprehension questions are an essential part of the reading tests and help determine when a student is ready to move up a reading level.  Please remember to pack the reading folder every day, even if the book is not finished, as all notes to go home will be placed in the folder so that they don't get lost in school bags.

Fortnightly Sacred Singing begins this week. Students in Year 2 will be dismissed from the church at the end of the school day.
Have a wonderful week! :)

We have had a short but great first week in 2 Navy!  Not only do the children have the excitement of a new classroom, they are also lucky enough to have a room with a view - being upstairs is a fun change! Everyone has settled in very well, catching up with familiar faces as well as establishing new friendships. This week the children sat the Pat M and Pat R maths, comprehension and spelling tests.  This was a new experience for the children as it required test conditions and separate a-e answer sheets.  Despite the challenges this posed, the children coped very well with their first experience of formal testing.  The same tests will be conducted at the end of the year and will be used to collect important data that tracks student progress across their schooling from Years 2 to Year 6. On Friday, notes were sent home that outline the term ahead. Please sign up for our blog and twitter, as it will be through these mediums that I will provide weekly updates and insights into our classroom life. Have a great week! :)
