On Thursday it was with much excitement that the three Year 2 classes set off to visit Mayes Cottage museum as part of our History unit - looking at the history of our local area. The wonderful volunteers described to the children what life would have been like in the 1800's for children of their age. The children viewed the original house and contents of Mayes Cottage, played outdoor games which were popular in the 1800's and were also treated to having a go at milking the very quiet 'cow'!

You will notice that your child's spelling list will have only a portion of the spelling words highlighted. After several weeks of spelling test results, the children have been grouped into appropriate spelling groups. This will enable your child to have a more relevant focus on target spelling words and provide the best opportunities for success on the weekly spelling tests, which is important for obtaining a sense of achievement. The children will still fold their homework book into four columns to practise their spelling words, and have been encourage to practise them to the bottom of the page in order to become super spellers. It is hoped that the smaller spelling lists will enable the children to have more time to practise their sight words at home, as the Year 2 target is to be able to spell all 200 sight words by the end of the year. Please do not tick off the sight word list in the reading folders - teaching staff will highlight and update these after each time that a student has been tested in class. Happy spelling!
