This is a busy time of term, with the children being assessed on their learning regarding the various units of work they have been studying throughout the term.

The children have also been assessed on their reading levels which involves both the ability to read the words fluently and comprehension of the story. The target levels for Year 2 are to reach PM level 17 by mid year, and level 21 by the end of the year. I cannot stress enough the importance of daily reading with your child, which should be done at a time and location which is relaxing and enjoyable to foster a love for reading in your child. The home readers should be read at least TWICE each night to facilitate comprehension and fluency of the reader. If you know that reading is an area of challenge for your child, please make the effort to do extra reading on a daily basis. Being able to read is essential across ALL subject areas at school, being able to read information and instructions can make a world of difference to your child's learning.
